Welcome to the Tobago
Cays on the Paradise
Islands website. The
Tobago Cays are a small
group of five deserted
islets in the St Vincent
and Grenadine Islands.
The Cays are a national
park and protected by a
horseshoe shaped reef,
popular with visitors
and sailors. |
|
|
| The Tobago
Cays were purchased by the St Vincent and
Grenadines Government in 1999; having
previously been in private ownership from
the 16th Century. The Cays are now a
wildlife reserve and a unique natural
resource |
 |
 |
The smallest
Cay of Jamesby
island has one of the best beaches.
In fact, all the Tobago Cays have fine white
sandy beaches and snorkelling is a popular
pastime on the easterly beach of
Petit
Rameau island. No fishing, anchoring of dinghies or
jet skis are allowed to try and protect the
delicate coral reefs. |
| The Tobago Cays are often
used in movies and most recently
Petit Tabac
was the backdrop for Johnny Depp being
marooned in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse
of the Black Pearl". |
|
|
The
entire Grenadine Islands
land mass is less than
20 square miles; the
largest of the islands
is Bequia (around 7
square miles). Canouan,
Union and Mustique are
the only other islands
of any significant size.
The larger islands are
volcanic with the
highest point being
Mount Tobai (1,000 feet)
on Union Island. |
