The entire Grenadine Islands land mass is less than 20 square miles; the largest of the islands is Bequia (around 7 square miles). Canouan, Union and Mustique are the only other islands of any significant size.
The larger islands are volcanic with the highest point being Mount Tobai (1,000 feet) on Union Island.

The Grenadines are popular with the rich and famous and offer some of the best sailing in the Caribbean on a par with the Virgin Islands. Many of the islands are coral with fabulous beaches, luxury hotels and private villas. Mustique in particular is known throughout the world for it's gracious private villas and famous residents.

Carib Indians prevented the islands from being settled until 18th Century. Ownership passed between the British and French and then back to the British in 1763. Saint Vincent and the Grenadine islands gained full independence from Britain in 1979.
