Dead Chest Island, BVI

Dead Chest Island in Deadman's Bay off Peter Island with Salt and Cooper island in the background. Dead Chest Island was where the famous pirate Blackbeard (real name Edward Teach) marooned 15 mutinous members of his crew and left them with only a sword and a cask of rum - spawning the musical memoir "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum".

Deadman's Bay is so named after the unlucky souls who washed up on it's shore. See our gallery of British Virgin Islands aerial photographs.
