St Thomas Cruise Port USVI |

|
Welcome to the St Thomas
Cruise Port on the Paradise
Islands website.
The island of
St
Thomas, together
with nearby
Puerto Rico, is one of the
most popular cruise ship
destinations in the
Caribbean with some 1.5
million annual visitors
arriving at the port. |
|
Most
larger ships will be
docking at the
Havensight Pier on the
opposite side of Long
Bay from the main town
of Charlotte
Amalie, Saint Thomas. Unfortunately,
the old town is a fair
walk or a short taxi
ride away. The Pier can
accommodate three of the
largest ships at one
time and it can get
quite busy with
passengers being
processed for excursions
on almost an industrial
scale. Around the Havensight Pier are two
duty free shopping areas
and a new marina. The
authorities have made
the port area as
pleasant as they can,
but like a number of
Caribbean Islands; once
you have seen one duty
free mall you have seen
them all! The Editor's
top tip excursion is the
very lovely
Trunk Bay on the
neighbouring island of
St John. |

Walking
to the main down town
shopping area of
Charlotte Amalie
will take between 30
minutes and 45 minutes;
however in hot weather
there is no shade and
the road is busy. There
is a pavement (side
walk) all the way. At
the end of the dock look
out for the cut through
via the duty free
village and alongside
the marina. It's easy to
miss the short cut and
you don't want to be
walking along the busy
Long Bay Road (zoom in
to the interactive map
below to see your route
around Long Bay). |

Paradise
Point (adjacent to the
cruise port) offers an
excellent view over the
port, long bay and the
old town of Charlotte
Amalie. The Skyride
cable car takes about 5
minutes each way. |
