The inspiration for Paradise
Islands came way back in the early nineties
when the Editor (then working as a photographer and
publisher) decided to write a book about the
Caribbean (a pictorial 'coffee table' type guide
with lots of glossy images). Like many plans the
project never got off the ground with the
introduction of children and a career change.
With the advent of the internet years
later and a new year's resolution at the end of 2006
to do something about it, sparked the first web
pages to be crafted in January 2007.
The site is therefore a collection
of images taken over a 17 year period with
additional more up to date material collated with
the permission of various tourist boards, commercial image
libraries, donations of photos
from over 100 photographers (amateur and
professional); and from sources using the Creative Commons License
(such as Flickr and other libraries).
Paradise Islands will be an ongoing
project, probably until 2012, before the site is complete.
Many of our own images (taken by the Editor) are freely available for others to use
without copyright restrictions for non commercial
use.
The site aims to give a good
overview of many tropical islands around the World
with good quality photos, maps and some useful
information for prospective travellers.
